I Live Abroad

Whether or not you’re eligible to vote depends on how long you have been living outside of Ireland.

You are vote eligible if you have lived in Ireland in the last 18 months.* Ahead of the same-sex marriage referendum in 2015, Yes Equality campaigners summoned vote-eligible Irish people living abroad home to vote. We plan to do the same.

 
 

* Under Section 11 (3) of the Electoral Act 1992, Irish citizens overseas may retain full voting rights for a period of 18 months, should they intend to return to Ireland within that timeframe.
